The Senegalese-American hip hop and R&B singer, songwriter and record producer exploded in 2004 following the relase of his single "Locked Up" from his debut album 'Trouble'. Other popular songs on the album include "Lonely" as well as "Belly Dancer (Bananza)," "Pot Of Gold," and "Ghetto". His next album 'Konviceted' which featured such hits as "Smack that" ft.
Eminem, "I Wanna Love You" ft. Snoop Dogg, and "Don't Matter", acheived similar if not more success than his first as "I Wanna Love You" and "Don't Matter" both topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Akon is also the only artist to ever accomplish the feat of holding both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice.
