America Ferrera America Ferrara is best known for her starring role as 'Betty Suarez' in the much-acclaimed comedy series "Ugly Betty". To say that her performance in the role has been well-received is an understatement. She has thus far won a Golden Globe Award, Emmy Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award for the role. In addition to those, she was hailed and congratulated by the U.S. House of Representatives as being a role model for young Hispanics. Her first on-screen appearance was in the Disney TV movie, "Gotta kick it Up!" in 2002. That same year, she appeared in one of her highest-profile roles to date in the indie-film "Real Women have Curves". She followed that with roles, in the TV series, "Touched by an Angel", and films, "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" and "Lords of Dogtown". She also appeared in the off-Broadway play "Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead", directed by Trip Cullman. Ferrera was raised as the youngest in a family of eight, which includes one brother and four sisters. She attended the University of Southern California, where she is majored in International Relations, and is currently dating Ryan Piers Williams whom she met while working on his student film at USC.
