Gates McFadden Cheryl Gates McFadden's best known role is that of Dr. Beverly Crusher in the television series "Star Trek: The Next Generation". Prior to the series, however, she was well-known as a choreographer often working on Jim Henson productions including such features as: "Labyrinth" and "The Muppets Take Manhattan".As a way of distinguishing her acting work from her choreography, she is usually credited as "Gates McFadden" as an actress and "Cheryl McFadden" as a choreographer. In addition to having starred on Star Trek, she did direct on episode, "Genesis". Throughout her tenure on the show however, her character was often underused and McFadden herself expressed disappointment at this and the lack of screen-time in The Next Generation Movies.
