James Franco Franco is probably best remembered for his role as Harry Osbourne in the "Spider-man" trilogy. The immensely talented young star however, first got his break on television in the acclaimed comedy series "Freaks and Geeks". His first major film was the romantic comedy "Whatever It Takes" in 2000, where he met his co-star, now ex-girlfriend Marla Sokoloff.Subsequently, his career took a major turn following his role as James Dean in director Mark Rydell's 2001 biographical TV film of the same name. The role brought Franco much acclaim, and he was distinguished in 2002 with a Golden Globe Award, as well as nominated for an Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Afterwards cam Spider-man, Originally, he was consiodered for hte role of Peter Parker, but he was instead cast in the supporting roe of Harry Osbourne. Starring roles in such films as "City by the Sea" (he was handpicked by De Niro for the part), "Annapolis", "The Company", "Tristan and Isolde ", "Sonny" and "Flyboys" soon followed, all performing moderately well in the well the box-office and increasing the young star's credentials. He is scheduled to star in several other films due for a 2008 release, including "Pineapple Express", a comedy co-starring Seth Rogen and written and produced by Judd Apatow, both of whom worked with Franco on "Freaks and Geeks". He has also been signed to star opposite Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, and Emile Hirsch in Gus Van Sant's upcoming Harvey Milk bio-pic "Milk", as Milk's manger Scott Smith. In addition to acting, Franco is also a painter, ans has stated that "he has actually been painting longer than he has been acting", describing the art as his "outlet" in his high-school years.
