Marti Pellow

Originally Mark McLachlan, Marti Pellow is the lead singer of the Scottish pop group Wet Wet Wet. The band enjoyed great success in the late 80s and 90s, but suffered after the departure of drummer Tommy Cunningham in 1997. Around this period, Pellow became addicted to heroin to the point of collapsing.
In his own words, "It was textbook. I couldn't function without it. But there's no romantic side to heroin - it's no good." He eventually beat the habit. After which in May 1999, he left Wet Wet Wet to embark on a solo career. He was quite successful with that too, relaesing such albums as "Smile" featuring the hit songs "Close to You" and "I've been around the World". and "Marti Pellow Sings the Hits of Wet Wet Wet a& Smile". In 2002, he hosted and sang in 'Girls' Night Out', one of a week of shows in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust, at the Royal Albert Hall. This led to him, in 2002, being offered the part of Billy Flynn, the lawyer in the musical Chicago in London's West End and, in 2004, on Broadway. Despite his solo career, it would seem that all was not over with Wet Wet Wet, and the band had somewhat remained close- this was proven to great effect when Pellow's ex-bandmates showed up for his mother's funeral in 2003; a gesture which touched Pellow deeply. And in June 2004, he re-joined Wet Wet Wet and went on tour. Pellow has been in a long-term relationship with his now-fiancée, former "Miss Scotland" Eileen Catterson Some of his honors include winning Pellow the second series of the prime-time BBC1 show "Just the Two of Us", which began on January 2, 2007, partnering actress Hannah Waterman, and placing sixth in a 2003 Glasgow Herald poll to determine "The Most Scottish Person in the World".
