Timothy Dalton Timothy Dalton is best known for having picked up the mantle of James Bond after Roger Moore quit the series. He starred in the Bond films "The Living Daylights" and "License to kill". Dalton is notable in this respect for having given a different, grittier and more realistic spin on the character. In his own words, "I don't believe Bond is superman, a cardboard cut out or two-dimensional.He's got to be a human being. He’s got to be identifiable, and that’s what I'm trying to be….It's not a spoof, it's not light, it's not jokey". This approach received mixed reviews from fans and critics. On the one hand, Dalton's approach was a welcome relief from the Moore era of Bond and a return to the more serious Bond portrayed in Ian Fleming's novels which Dalton had tried to emulate, on the other, some fans and ciritcs just weren't used to that type of Bond after all the Moore and Connery films. It's interesting to note, that is it is arguably this same approach that is being utilized in today's Bond films with Daniel Craig. It is also worthy of mention that Dalton had been in the casting list of Bond since the late 60s, prior to Moore. Asides from Bond, Dalton is a well-known Shakespearean stage actor and has appeared n numerous other films, though he' shied from mainstream, and TV miniseries including: "Cleopatra", "The Informant", "The Beautician and the Beast", "Looney Tunes: Back in Action", "Jane Eyre", "Flash Gordon" and "Hot Fuzz". Dalton is unmarried but has a son Alexander (b. 1997), with Russian composer Oksana Grigorieva. He lives in Los Angeles. Back to Timothy Daltons Index |
